This beautiful breed can lay up to 200 eggs per year. They are a fan favorite because of their broodiness, disposition and laying abilities. It was a breed that originated from England in the late 1800's. They are a large, fluffy and friendly breed that are generally calm and sweet natured. They tend to be good foragers, and more likely to hang out by feeders since they can seem a little lazy at times.
Roosters are important to the Lavender Orpingtons as they can miss warning signs of a looming predator such as hawks. The benefit to Lavender Orpington Roosters is that they tend to docile and calm natured as well and not aggressive like others. The hens make excellent mothers when they go broody.
