Sapphire Gems are easily becoming a fan favorite! They are a hybrid chicken that comes from a Blue Barred Plymouth Rock and a Barred Plymouth Rock. The result is the gorgeously blue, and lavender colored plumage. They are best known for their striking appearance and their excellent egg laying ability. 

They are believed to originate from the Czech Republic, although this hasn't been officially confirmed. They are extremely easy keepers (known for being unusually healthy throughout their lifetime). They live up to 7 years of age, and are cold and heat hardy. 

Sapphire Gems are known for being independent and forage well on their own, if given the ability to free range; the cost for feed decreases for them usually. They are good for beginner chicken owners, friendly, and do quite well with small children.
