Shipping Live Poultry Policy

Wise County Chicken Farm partners with trusted hatcheries to offer a variety of live poultry shipped directly to customers throughout the United States. Our hatchery partners are carefully selected for their commitment to quality, animal welfare, and safe shipping practices.


Because live poultry are living animals, shipping dates, availability, and delivery times may be affected by hatch schedules, weather conditions, and carrier operations. While every effort is made to fulfill orders as requested, the health and welfare of the birds will always take priority.

Shipping Schedule

Live poultry orders typically ship Monday through Wednesday via USPS Priority Mail. Shipping early in the week helps reduce the likelihood of birds being delayed over a weekend.

Orders are scheduled based on hatchery availability and may be delayed due to:

  • Weather conditions
  • Hatch availability
  • Holidays
  • Carrier service interruptions
  • Other circumstances beyond our control

Customers will receive tracking information once their order has shipped.

Shipping Address Requirements

Customers are responsible for providing a complete and accurate shipping address.

Please verify all shipping information before placing your order. Wise County Chicken Farm is not responsible for delays, additional shipping charges, or losses resulting from incorrect or incomplete shipping information.

Orders cannot be rerouted once they have entered the USPS shipping network.

USPS Delivery

Live poultry are shipped through the United States Postal Service (USPS) - excluding Hawaii.

While USPS generally provides excellent service for shipping live poultry, delivery dates and transit times are estimates only and cannot be guaranteed.

Wise County Chicken Farm and our hatchery partners are not responsible for carrier delays caused by weather, transportation issues, or other circumstances outside our control.

Customer Responsibilities

Customers play an important role in ensuring the successful transition of newly arrived poultry.

Before your shipment arrives, please ensure you have:

  • A clean, secure brooder prepared and operating.
  • Appropriate heat for the species and age of the birds.
  • Fresh feed readily available.
  • Clean drinking water prepared before arrival.
  • Adequate space and ventilation.

Upon delivery:

Retrieve your shipment as soon as possible.
Inspect the birds immediately.

Provide warmth, feed, and fresh water without delay.

We recommend offering Sav-A-Chick® Electrolyte & Vitamin Supplement in the birds' drinking water during the first 24-48 hours after arrival to help support hydration and recovery from shipping stress.

Prompt care greatly improves the birds' ability to recover from the normal stress associated with transportation.

Weather Delays

The health and welfare of our birds always come first.

During periods of extreme heat, extreme cold, severe storms, or other unsafe shipping conditions, orders may be delayed until conditions improve.

These decisions are made in the best interest of the birds and help improve the likelihood of a safe arrival.

Live Animal Disclaimer

Shipping live animals always carries some inherent risk despite careful breeding, handling, packing, and transportation.

Although the vast majority of shipments arrive safely, factors beyond our control—including weather, carrier handling, and transit delays—can impact live animal shipments.

By purchasing shipped live poultry, customers acknowledge and accept these inherent risks.
