 The Ameraucana (Araucana) are a true, pure breed of chicken that has only been around since the 1970's. It's becoming increasingly popular in backyard flocks because of it's sweet, people friendly and docile demeanor, and the variety of color it can be. 

These are not the same as an 'Easter Egger' - as those can lay a variety of colored eggs. These chicks will lay Blue colored eggs in a variety of shades. The are better egg layers than they will be as a dual-purpose breed. They can be a variety of colors, including - black, blue, blue wheaten, brown red, buff, silver, wheaten, and white. They are a rare chicken and one of only few that will lay Blue Eggs.
