Texas Red's are a hybrid chicken. They are bred primarily from a Rhode Island Red and a New Hampshire Red. These chickens are great dual purpose breeds. They are bred for to be productive layers, and are heavy enough to be good meat birds as well.
Texas Red's can range from light red, to rusty, to red or a dark brownish-red. The are fairly docile and generally get along well with any other breed of chicken. They are great for beginners and overall a pretty hardy breed tolerating the hot and cold temperature changes in Texas.
